Time graph for Amy Bento: Rumble
Strong, powerful moves in a no-nonsense kickbox workout (never out of control, never just “throwing your arms around”). These exercises seem to have a real purpose: take down your attacker (like a true urban street fight). The combos are basic but varied — from simple jabs and kicks to high blocks and “knee smashes.” Amy cues as she goes — no slowing down to “teach” a move. In the first section, she uses weighted gloves to maximize the intensity. In the second, she uses a punching bag to mimic a real opponent (but her assistant shows no-bag options). It ends with a series of exceptionally deep, dumbbell-assisted stretches. Weighted gloves and dumbbells are optional. DVD has: 3 premixes (41 to 90 min. alternate workouts), Chapter menus, Wide screen.

Amy Bento: Rumble

I LOVE this workout
It is not a high intensity workout, but with 1.5lb weighted gloves I sure feel it. There is a lot of punching and kicking, and the pace is controlled enough so that form and strength can be the focus. I am drenched at the end of this workout, and it's certainly not from jumping around. I love the flexibility training at the end, and adore the music. I agree this is not great for people new to kickboxing as form is not explained. My only beefs are the half-asleep modifier, and the fact that form is almost never mentioned, let alone explained. Otherwise this would be a great workout for all levels. I add plyos to the round house and side kicks to add intensity. It would have been nice if there was a modifier showing that option, but anyone familiar with kickboxing will know how to intensify. - posted by Sam on 11/7/2008
Disappointing
I was so excited to finally have a workout for my bag, but I was very disappointed with this one. It wasn't necessarily bad but the background exerciser was barely trying and that drove me crazy. Also, the stretching was odd the way Amy would take a big breath and just flop forward real fast. This is not a dvd for newcomers to kickboxing. Punching at air and hitting a bag are very different and Amy doesn't explain how to properly deliver a punch on a bag, or for that matter give any other safety or execution instruction. The workout itself was ok but definitely not for me. - posted by Mary on 11/5/2008
low intensity
I would say this is an intermediate workout that does not border on advanced at all. I used weighted gloves to make it more intense. I was annoyed that there was cool down in the middle of the workout between the regular drills and bag drills. It wasn't intense enough to merit a break. The cueing was sparse but the choreography was basic -- at times to the point where the combos felt too long. I didn't care for the music but it's tolerable. The stretching section was different but not for me because I don't like to use weights for stretching. - posted by fitmom on 11/1/2008
Loved it!
I did Rumble with the heavy bag section for the first time today and loved it! I agree with the reviewers who said that the intensity in this workout comes from using your muscles, rather than going at warp speed; I certainly worked up a good sweat. Rumble goes at the perfect pace to allow you to really focus on your form, and Amy cues well throughout, particularly in the heavy bag section; my back was towards the DVD player during this bit but I didn't have any trouble following. Amy's personality really shines in this workout - I loved her "tough grrrl" comments and the tribal music, which has been going through my head all day (in a good way!) - posted by RedPanda on 10/19/2008
Very Disapointing
This workout is very slow. I didn't even break a sweat which never occurs when I workout. Rumble by far doen't live up to Amy's other workouts. The stretch section is good though. - posted by Roz on 10/8/2008
Great choice if you like authentic styles of kickbox workouts
I enjoy Rumble. I found it intense but not from the kind of intensity that challenges your aerobic threshold. It is paced just right to allow you to aim for perfection in every punch and kick. With fast kickbox workouts it is tough to maintain form. For instance, to put your whole torso and rotational force (not just your arm) into punch is tough when the punches come too fast. Amy's form is excellent. The Chinese martial arts moves are fresh and fun. Rumble engages my mind and my body. The stretch at the end of the workout feels wonderfully rewarding after all the hard work. Very different from the other stretch stuff on DVD. The background exerciser looks like she is having an off day, but she isnt distracting. This workout would have been fabulous in visual appeal if it had more background exercisers who were really going for it, but this does not prevent me from reaching out to do it again. - posted by Vrinda on 10/5/2008
Agree with other reviewers -- it's slow
I agree with previous reviewers: it's slow, not as intense as described, and the modifier does have poor form. I like Amy a lot but I can't recommend this one. - posted by Dede on 9/30/2008
O.K.
This is the FIRST Amy Bento workout that I'm disappointed in. The entire workout felt like one long warm up to me. I had a hard time getting my heart rate up and the few times it did raise a bit, I had a hard time keeping it up. I used weighted gloves but I did not have a bag. I did the workout all the way through twice before trading it away. I DO appreciate what Amy was trying to do; it just fell short, in my opinion. Many have commented on sore arms and the toning benefit, but when I purchase a cardio workout, I want a cardio benefit. A toning benefit is fine as long as I get the cardio benefit. In the Ring is Amy's best and I would save your money and purchase that one instead of Rumble unless you like an extremely slow pace and want to focus on form so much you don't get your heart rate up. I would love to see more from Amy along the lines of In the Ring (which she has announced will be coming in her 2009 line up...yay!). I use and enjoy all her other workouts. I own them all except the 10 Minute Solutions and Boot Camp. I give it 3 starts because it is produced well and it was well thought out and it delivered what many wanted, it just didn't deliver for me. - posted by Angela on 9/29/2008
Great workout!
I really enjoyed this workout - so nice to have easy choreography, you can concentrate on being athletic rather than worrying about getting the moves. I have only done the first part (a few times), which gives you a nice 40 minutes workout and is worth the purchase of the DVD. Thanks Amy for the variety of workouts - its so nice to relax when working out to Amy, I'm usually stressing over her choreograhy! - posted by Cheryl on 9/28/2008
Great Workout from Amy
One of the things I have learned when doing an Amy Bento workout is you have to be ready to go as soon as the warmup starts. I exercise at 4am in the morning and many times my body doesn't move as fast as I would like at that time in the morning. I write this because the warmup in Rumble really allowed me to ease my way into the workout. I found that refreshing. The workout is definately drill focus. I like this because you can focus on the movement and the form of the move. The intensity of the workout is not driven by Amy so you will have to create your own. I used two lb weighted gloves during the workout and found this bump up the intensity. I try to do a kickboxing workout at least once a week and I will definately add Rumble to my rotation on a regular basis. - posted by saundra on 9/4/2008

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Premixes
X
These are alternate workouts created by the manufacturer. They use the same content as the main program (i.e. the very same video footage). But the sections are re-edited into pre-made alternative workouts that you select from a menu. These are often condensed versions of the main workout.
Chapter menus
X
You can play only the individual workout segments you want by picking them off a chapter menu (one at a time).
Wide screen
X
The program fully fills a wide-screen television screen. Note: These videos will display black bars at the top and bottom on a traditional 4 x 3 ratio TV screen.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.
