By veteran instructor Keli Roberts, it’s a safe and effective introduction to kickboxing. Keli’s fast pace assures efficient calorie burning while her detailed cuing assures perfect form (she teaches one-on-one, like a personal trainer). You get three progressively more challenging segments. You’ll start with basic kicks, punches and balance moves. You’ll end with non-stop combos and variations (e.g. side kick, roundhouse kick, back kick). Like all the “Dummies” videos, you also get on-screen intensity options, technique pointers and safety tips. The DVD also includes a separate, 17-minute kickbox instructional segment at the end. ©2006. DVD has: Chapter menus.

Fat-Burning Kickboxing for Dummies

Beginners and Dummies are the same
This DVD was soooooo helpful for me. Keli breaks down the moves to the smallest detail. It is slow, yes, but it is supposed to be since the title clearly says for DUMMIES. This means start slow/from scratch. This DVD fits the bill for anyone wanting to try kickboxing but not know where to begin. Truly a treasure. - posted by Saundra on 8/2/2007
Not enough of a Workout
I take aerobic kickboxing at the gym and I my membership is about to be over with so, I thought this might work as something I can trade for it's place but, it just wasn't a workout for me. It is for someone who is a beginner. - posted by Rachel on 5/23/2007

Good Intro to Kickboxing
I was new to kickboxing and heard that this tape was a good tape for beginners. I was not disappointed. The instructions are very clear and easy to follow. The workout itself is a short 30 minutes, but a good cardio workout. I must admit, I didn't care for the popups and such, but instructor Kelli Roberts was very easy to follow. I quickly learned the routine after a few uses and found myself already ready to move on to a harder kickboxing workout. I would definitely rate this a beginner/low intermediate workout. I still like to use this on days I don't have much time to workout, but want a good full body workout. - posted by MJ on 4/16/2007
Fun, Light to moderate intensity
I just finished this video for the first time. It is my 4th kickboxing video, but I wish it were my first because the instructional part was so informative. I like Kelli Roberts and I thought the workouts were enjoyable, but I found the little "for dummies" tips to be annoying and distracting. At least as a Generation X-er who grew up on stuff like pop up videos I could handle it, but I'm sure some people wouldn't be able to get past that. I was also distracted because that top they put her in made her boobs look funny (silly, but really, couldn't they do better than that) Overall, I expect to keep this video in my rotation, but as an intermediate exerciser, I will probably do things to ramp up the intensity (jog when supposed to march, etc.) It is also good for days like today when I am recovering from illness and don't want to go to high intensity. - posted by Lainie on 3/19/2007
strictly for beginners
This is a beginner kickboxing workout with a lot of slow steps and instruction. I am an intermediate exerciser and my heartrate was in my zone for 2 mins of the entire workout That said, it was fun and not boring. Good for rest day or if you are not feeling well. I love Kelli Roberts as an instructor!! - posted by Traci on 2/11/2007
Very Instructional, Very Basic
I bought this workout because fitness magazine rated it high. This is a very simple and basic workout. Kelli is a good instructor and the explanations are good but I didn't even begin to get my heart rate up. This workout would be good if you have never done kickboxing before and need the basic instrutions. Otherwise, I was bored and the DVD is going to the library as a donation. - posted by Mary H on 1/5/2007
Loved the video, but my knees did NOT!
I just tried this today, loved the workout, but if you have bad or semi bad knees not for you. Especially if you're working out on carpet, like I am. - posted by Carrie on 12/21/2006
For exercisers who are new to Kickboxing.
This workout is for beginners. Since I am a newcomer to Kickboxing, I like it. My previous experience consisted of a couple of workouts, which merely touched upon Kickboxing. This routine is fun and challenging. Keli Roberts instructs well and appears to know what she is doing. The DVD contains a tutorial to show exercisers how to perform the moves correctly. I suspect that she could hold her own against an attacker. My only problem: What is the difference between a Side kick and a Roundhouse kick - posted by C. Bailey on 12/7/2006
basic workout
I'm a fan of Kelli Roberts ... for the most part, she does a good job of instruction in this video (one poor example: she could have explained the difference between a round house kick and a side kick better). If you are new to kickboxing, this is a good primer, however, I wouldn't rate the workout as intermediate, only basic. - posted by Deb on 12/4/2006
watch your knees
Work out for Dummies is always great. But if you are new to working out, this is not for you. A great way for a knee injury to happen. - posted by pcp on 11/5/2006

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
