Time graph for Prevention: Walk Yourself Fit

Three separate indoor walking-style workouts plus an audio CD for your outdoor fitness walks. Each workout uses a specific fat-burning technique — you can choose from: fast/slow aerobic intervals, steady-pace cardio or aerobic/toning intervals. This varied format is a motivating mix that maximizes interest while it challenges your muscles in different ways. These always-easy-to-follow programs offer more variety than many walking workouts. Besides the usual marches and kicks, Chris Freytag also includes salsa, taps, “speed skating” and jogs. Note: all three workouts have the same warm-up and cooldown. 2 to 5 lb. dumbbells are used in the aero/tone section. The separate audio CD features five 10 to 15-minute walks at five intensity levels; it keeps you on-pace with precisely programmed instrumental music and occasional walking tips. ©2006. Not available in stores. DVD has: Music only option, Spanish option, Region 1.

Prevention: Walk Yourself Fit

Fun
I'm a true Leslie Sansone fan, got my first video Basic Stepping and Walk Aerobics from Collage way back in the day... I've bought a lot of her workouts over the years but have been looking for more walking workouts and I am so glad Collage offered this little gem. Chris Freytag is a wonderful instructor. She's friendly and encouraging. Her queing is good but I do wish she would mention what foot you're supposed to be on more often, but I am a klutz, so maybe that's only my problem. I'm not good at pivoting so I kind of do a little "Dancing Bear" step (anyone over 50 reading this will know what I mean.) and keep going. I think I'll get the hang of it all. It's not low impact, there is some hopping, but I changed that to a side step with big arm movements. And yes, there are lunges which I despise, but I'm trying to do them, there aren't very many. I haven't done the Accelerated workout or the Body-Shaping Workout, though I did watch them. I'm looking forward to trying them. I highly recommend this workout if you've been doing Leslie S. for a while and are looking for something with a little more variety. - posted by Barbara on 9/14/2008
very good, diverse workout
This is easy to follow, and if you have tried other dvds, you know others are not. Works alot of different muscle groups and is a good length. There are 3 workouts- the first is an interval, with you speeding up about every 5 min. The second is a combo of weight and cardio. The third is a long, steady paced cardio. Much more diverse than Lesle Sansone. I'm very satisfied with this. - posted by barbara on 7/27/2008
Everything About This One is Great!
Wow! If you like Leslie, but you need more variety, this is for you. It's walking with added variety. I wouldn't call it aerobics or too dancey, yet you really get your heartrate up. Any one can do this video; I'm a former dancer, but I didn't find it too difficult or boring at all. One of the best features is the choice of walking programs on this DVD to cater to whatever your goals are: Cardio, weight loss, body shaping, blast through a plateau, etc. It gives you a program to follow to help meet your goals- I loved this feature! Also Chris Freytag is fun. I found that 3 separate 30 mintue long workouts could be all done together or done separately, whatever my mood was. This one is worth the purchase, and I'm looking forward to getting more Prevention dvds. My copy came with a bonus audio CD- no one else mentioned this (maybe all copies don't come with it), but the additional CD is fantastic too to use on the DVD player at home on a rainy day or outside on a portable CD player. The music is terrific, not annoying or cheesy. Chris guides you through the walk as you increase and decrease speeds. The audio CD also has different types and levels of walking programs as well- great variety once again. This is one of my new favorites. - posted by Stacey on 6/9/2008
Didn't like this video
I have other DVDs with Chris Freytag so was looking forward to this one. I was wanting a walking video to use on days I couldn't get outside. This was too easy and it seemed like the moves were repeated in two of the three sessions. It was also more aerobic than walking. I used it a few times and than gave it away. - posted by Rhonda K. on 5/30/2008
Great!!!
I love this workout! It's great for days that perhaps you don't want to kill yourself, you just know you need to get off the couch! As always, Chris does a great job of leading and keeping up the energy! - posted by Kate on 5/10/2008
Misleading Title
I've been enjoying Leslie Sansone Walking workouts for years and just recently bought several of Debbie Rocker's Walking workouts which I love. I got this DVD to further mix things up. However, this DVD is not really a walking workout nor is it lower impact. It does use a basic march between steps, but most of the workout is dancy with V-steps, step ball changes, pivot moves, etc. and is not lower impact at all with lunges, "running through a tire" "hopping on the curb" and things like that. My knees hurt just previewing the video. I was disappointed in the last Prevention "Walking" workout as well (Walk Your Way Slim with Michelle Dozois). They both ended up at my neighborhood library. - posted by Michele on 4/13/2008
Love it!
Great walking workout. Basic, but fun choreography that moves along at a nice pace. This is a perfect workout for active rest days, those starting out, as an add on, or however else you want to use it. I really like Chris Freytag. She is personable and encouranging. I also have Prevention's Fight Cellulite Fast and it's another great workout. Prevention has created a nice set of workouts that can really help improve fitness without killing you or boring you. I rotate these in with advanced workouts from Cathe, Amy Bento, and Tracey Staehle's. Highly recommended. - posted by fit2Btied on 3/21/2008
worth the money.
I love this dvd. It helps on the cold days outside its worth the money. - posted by tammy on 12/31/2007
A Nice Little Workout
The dvd component of the work may be easy but I find that I still use it if I don't have the energy to do a longer workout. However, the cd component of the exercise program is really good in my opinion. I used it the other day while I was walking/jogging on my treadmill. It's definietly worth the buy because of the CD. - posted by Marie on 10/5/2007

Power Walking
This is a really good "walking" workout. Not only do you march or "walk" in place but there are so many motions you get to do. The music is really good in this workout. My favorite is the third workout, the one where you get to use weights sporadically through out the workout. It really gets my heart rate up and I know that I am building muscles and muscle burns fat. And as always you have Chris who guides you throughout this walking workout. She is cheerful and encouraging as ever. If you like workouts such as Walk Away the Pounds you will definitely like this workout because of the variety it offers you. Change is so important for your body. You will see faster results when you change up your routine. I give this workout a 7 out of 10. It's pretty good. - posted by Emily on 3/20/2007

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Music only option
X
This feature allows you to play only the music, without any cuing (after you’ve learned the movements and you just want to do the workout without listening to the instruction).
Spanish option
X
In addition to English, you can choose to hear the program in Spanish.
Region 1
X
This DVD is designed for US and Canadian DVD players. It will NOT play in most foreign country players.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
