Personal History: I began working at a Living Well Lady Fitness Center at the age of 17. I was hired to answer the phones, give tours, and sell memberships. At one point, I was told that if I wanted to continue to work there, I'd have to learn to teach aerobics. I contemplated running for the door, but decided to stick it out. I was forced to teach my first class one evening when an instructor called out, not having been trained yet. And, from there on, I was hooked! I started to attend as many classes and workshops as I could and eventually fell in love with step. I think it was sometime in 1997 that someone loaned me an exercise video and it changed my life. I started to use videos as a way of learning new choreography and eventually began choreographing my own routines.
Workout Philosophy: It is my job as an instructor to help people reach their goals by pushing them a little harder than they would themselves, guiding them gently when needed and giving them a safe, fun, and effective workout!
Success Story: I'd have to say that my favorite success story would be that of my husband, Mark. For many years, Mark lifted very heavy weights to get 'big,' but it put a lot of stress on his joints. After we started our family, he was no longer able to spend 2 to 3 hours at the gym, 5 to 6 days a week. I think that I helped him to feel like it was okay not be 'huge' in order to look fit. He is now very comfortable with the idea of being toned, not huge, and his body and joints are thanking him for it. We regularly work out together now. He looks fabulous and his knees no longer sound like popcorn when he comes up the steps!
